Short talks centered on Positive Discipline concepts and tools

Join the positive Discipline Association  for a variety of empowering short talks centered on Positive Discipline concepts and tools that foster growth and harmony within families and communities. Led by leaders in Positive Discipline, child development, psychology, counselling, and education, each presenter will offer invaluable insights and practical tips to cultivate and promote cooperation, mutual respect, and healthy communication among leaders, staff, teachers, parents, caregivers, and children.

Date: Friday, September 27, 2024

Time: 12:00 PM – 2:15 PM (Eastern Time) 
Languages: English and Spanish 

Format: Live Online 

Recordings: Available to registered participants 10 business days after the event.

Intended Audience: Parents, professionals, psychologists, counsellors, childcare providers, early childhood educators, teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, nannies, and even grandparents will benefit from the information. 

Open to PDA members and the general public

A Certificate of Completion will be provided only to participants who attend live and sign in and out during the session.

Understanding the power of connection:

These talks delve into the foundational principles of Positive Discipline. Speakers will discuss how fostering a sense of belonging and mutual respect promotes a holistic approach to mental health and well-being.


Cultivating self-discipline and empowerment:

This event emphasizes the role of Positive Discipline in nurturing self-discipline and fostering a sense of empowerment. Speakers will discuss the importance of developing self-regulation skills and a growth mindset. Practical tools and approaches for promoting intrinsic motivation and fostering a positive learning environment will be shared.

Shifting from mistakes to opportunities to learn:

Speakers will explore the paradigm shift of striving for perfection to focusing on improvements. These talks will delve into leadership, focusing on solutions, repairing relationships, nurturing life skills, and teaching problem-solving skills. Real-life examples and research findings demonstrating the effectiveness of Positive Discipline in promoting long-term behavioural changes and emotional well-being will be discussed.

ALYSON SCHAFER

Alyson Schafer is a 3rd generation Adlerian, with a Master’s degree from the Adler school (Toronto). She holds the distinction of being an Adlerian diplomat for the North American Association of Adlerian Psychology (NASAP). She has also been a faculty member for the International Committee of Adlerian Summer Schools and Institutes (ICASSI). Alyson also presented the keynote address for the International Association of Individual Psychology (IAIP) in Ukraine and prestigious Ansbacher Lecture. Alyson has helped open and train educators at two Adlerian nursery schools, plus she has consulted and presented to schools, principles, and school boards in Canada, the US, and internationally at various IB schools.

She’s a family counsellor in private practice in Kingston Ontario, as well as one of Canada’s most recognized parenting experts due to her extensive media work. Alyson is the resident parenting expert on many national TV and radio shows, as well as hosting her own TV show “The Parenting Show” and the podcast “Parenting The Adlerian Way”.

Alyson has three best-selling parenting books with Harper Collins Canada: “Breaking The Good Mom Myth”, “Honey, I Wrecked The Kids” and “Ain’t Misbehavin”. Her books have been translated into many languages. Alyson has spoken around the globe, including Bulgaria, Uruguay, Belgian and Switzerland.
